Slack/Peterson/Haneman/Gumm unites guitarist Evan Slack, bassist Trevor Peterson, drummer Rick Haneman, and vocalist Adam Gumm for the first time in a collaborative, improvisation-focused endeavor. Combining intricate guitar textures, fluid fretless bass lines, and energetic drums, Slack, Peterson, and Haneman create driving rhythms and musical experimentation. Throughout the set, the group will be joined by Minneapolis vocalist Adam Gumm, whose roots in hip-hop bring a sharp lyrical edge and fearless spontaneity to the music. In this ensemble, Gumm functions like a true jazz soloist—shaping rhythm, phrasing, and cadence with the nuance of an instrumentalist.
Evan Slack is a guitarist and producer based in the Twin Cities. Slack has a powerful voice on guitar, whether he is supporting the rhythm section with mesmerizing harmony or taking the lead as the soloist. He is recognized for his collaboration with internationally acclaimed vocalist Sid Sriram, having performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk series and completed a world tour in 2024. Slack has also worked with a multitude of local artists, including HEYARLO, Lupin, Purple Funk Metropolis, Marijuana Deathsquads, Papa Mbye, and Tahiti.
Trevor Peterson is a Twin Cities based bassist whose fretless bass work balances groove with fearless exploration. Known for heavy, driving basslines and vocal-like phrasing, Peterson treats the bass as both an anchor and atmosphere, moving effortlessly between foundational low-end power and expressive melodic improvisation. Peterson has worked with local artists such as King Pari, Eric Mayson, Zak Khan, FPA, Charlie Bruber, Tahiti, and Nathan Barlow.
Rick Haneman is a Minneapolis based drummer, music educator, and creative known for his dynamic touch and intuitive interplay on the drums. Equally comfortable in tightly structured grooves and open improvisational settings, he approaches the drum set as both a rhythmic engine and a textural instrument. Haneman is widely known for his work in local band HEYARLO.
