DJ Blue Funk shares musical finds from his recent trip to Japan.
DJ Blue Funk is a vinyl DJ and co-host of the monthly rare groove party The Nitty Gritty in NE Minneapolis. His sets draw inspiration from his upbringing in northern Japan, where he fell in love with jazz, soul, and vinyl culture. When he’s not DJing, you will find him scouring record stores across town or making such outlandish claims as, "Kenny Loggins is actually rare groove, if you think about it."
His work has aired on Jazz88 (Minneapolis), Brooklyn Radio, WSUM (Madison), SutroFM (San Francisco), and WXOU FM (Michigan). He has made DJ appearances at vinyl-focused events in Minneapolis; Chicago; and Washington, DC.
