⊹
One of the Twin Cities’ most versatile musicians, drummer Kevin Washington makes jazz for the future. He often incorporates other genres, from Afro-Latin music to hip-hop and R&B beats. The son of saxophonist Donald Washington and singer Faye Washington, Kevin grew up in Detroit immersed in learning music and listening to the jazz greats who came before him. Since moving to the Twin Cities in his teens, he continues to capture the spirit of African and African American music while making it his own. Kevin is a drumming instructor at Walker West Music Academy and works with the student jazz ensembles.
Trumpeter Solomon Parham is a native of the Motor City. Parham began his musical education in Detroit at the age of 9, studying trumpet with Herbie Williams. He graduated from Wayne State University with a bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education, then received his master’s degree in music from the McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul. He is now a trumpet performer, trumpet instructor, jazz band ensemble director, music educator, and producer in digital music. Parham has played on stages with well-respected musicians such as Delfeayo Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, Eric Kamau Gravatt, Anthony Cox, Eric Alexander, Wess Anderson, Terrance Blanchard, Kurt Elling, Kris Johnson, and Christian McBride.
Jack Barrett is a pianist and piano teacher in the Twin Cities.
