Bassist Chris Bates opens the night at Berlin with his jazz trio.

Chris Bates is an accomplished bassist recognized for his remarkable contributions to the world of jazz. Bates is a key member of the Atlantis Quartet, where his dynamic and inventive bass lines contribute to the ensemble's distinctive sound. With a career spanning decades, he has become a sought-after collaborator, known for his deep understanding of the jazz idiom. Beyond his work with Atlantis Quartet, Bates has lent his talents to various musical projects, solidifying his reputation as a skilled, innovative bassist within the vibrant Twin Cities music scene and beyond.
Minneapolis-based saxophonist Joe Hartnett is a graduate of The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City. After graduating, he spent over a decade performing a wide variety of musical styles in New York and California. Since returning to Minnesota, he has shared the stage with Phil Hey, Chris Bates, Dan Carpel, Miguel Hurtado, and other respected Twin Cities musicians. He is also a co-founder of North Star Jazz Workshops.
Cory Healey conjures sound from the drums by any means necessary. He studied music at Northern Illinois University and the University of Northern Iowa. While living in Chicago, Healey performed and recorded with Algernon (Cuneiform Records), W.W. Lowman, Fareed Haque’s Flat Earth Ensemble, The Jennifer Hartswick Band, Van Ghost and Ike Riley. After relocating to Minnesota in 2013, Healey emerged as a an active member of the Twin Cities jazz and improvised music scene — playing drums for Erik Fratzke’s Fake Accent, Adam Linz Le Percheron, Bryan and The Haggards, and his own Beautiful Sunshine Band which released their debut record on Shifting Paradigm Records in 2016. Healey has also performed and/or recorded with Six Families, Anthony Cox, Mark Mallman, Erik Koskinen, Dead Man Winter, Marijuana Deathsquads, the Immigration Orchestra and Dosh.
