Berlin is thrilled to present an evening of music inspired by the Trylon Cinema’s fall programming. Featuring Goblin covers by Thunderbolt Pagoda and magnetic DJ sets by The Witching Hour, this special night promises to be bewitching.

Thunderbolt Pagoda play heavy Kosmische music for the modern age. Epic space voyages give way to majestic riffs and propulsive mantric rhythms, and the band make use of subtlety and bombast in equal measure. Mellotron, electric sitar, and vintage analogue electronics act in conjunction with high-volume guitar, bass, and drums to create the grandiose musical landscapes the group envisions.

The group formed in 2005 and includes current and former members of Salamander, Skye Klad, Comets Ov Cupid, Magenta Vice, and more from the Minneapolis underground of the past few decades. They have shared the stage with a wide range of acts from around the world (Goblin, Nik Turner’s Hawkwind, Altin Gün, White Hills, Telekinetic Yet,i and Suishou No Fune, to name a few) and have released four albums (two on vinyl and two digital releases) and one EP since their debut album in 2007.

This show will be special in more than one way. First and foremost, it will be the debut show of a new rhythm section in the band. Longtime friend and recording engineer Bob Hughes (Farm Accident, Steve Tibbetts) has officially joined on bass, and Jack Kalyuzhny (The Deaf, The Yoleus) has recently taken up the drum throne. Their contributions are really helping shape the current era of the group.

Another important distinction for this show is the material, which will be a tribute set to the great Italian progressive rock group Goblin, who are chiefly known for their soundtracks to horror and Giallo films by Dario Argento, George Romero and others. This is the second time Thunderbolt Pagoda have paid tribute to Goblin, the first being on Halloween at the Turf Club circa 2010. This special performance will feature music from the films Profondo rosso (aka Deep Red; 1975), Zombi (aka Dawn Of The Dead; 1978), Tenebre (1982), and of course Suspiria (1977).

The Witching Hour is the DJ duo of Madeleine Melloy and Sylvia Jennings. Inspired by giallo cinema and dark disco dance floors, they will blend shady sounds and cool synths. Expect to hear a softer side of trip-hop with an edge of dance-forward industrial, Italo, and new beat.”
