Bassist/composer Max Johnk and his modern jazz project, Allweather, make their Berlin debut to celebrate the release of their new album, Nightbound!
Nightbound is Johnk’s fourth album and his first recording in five years. Featuring the punchy ensemble playing and concise improvisation of a working band, the album documents Johnk’s long-standing Allweather quintet on a program of diverse, swinging instrumental music. Johnk’s compositions ground his rock and R&B influences in a hard bop foundation, combining lush horn writing with off-kilter dissonance and shapeshifting groove.

Max Johnk is a journeyman bassist who lives and works in Minneapolis, MN. A recent transplant to the Twin Cities, Johnk has worked in the jazz, indie, Americana, and underground metal scenes across the Midwest for over a decade. He has been lucky to perform with Dakota Andersen, Wayne Anthony, Abinnet Berhanu, Davina and the Vagabonds, Paul Hecht, Cassandra Johnson, Toussaint Morrison, Conor Lee, Ethan Ostrow, The Weeping Covenant, and many others.
