Galaxy Express is a Twin Cities–based trio consisting of bassist/composer Nils Westdal, pianist Kavyesh Kaviraj, and drummer Tarek Abdelqader. Expect a balanced mix of tightly knitted celestial jazz originals and some familiar tunes. All aboard the Galaxy Express!
Tarek Abdelqader is a Palestinian American percussionist.
Kavyesh Kaviraj is a critically acclaimed composer, arranger and pianist living and working in Minnesota. The Twin Cities-based musician has worked with several internationally renowned artists, including Wynton Marsalis, David Sanchez, Justin Robinson, Roosevelt Collier, and Steve Cole.
Nils Westdal has performed, recorded or have been musically involved with a very wide variety of talented folks, including John C.S. Keston (in the dynamic duo Keston and Westdal), “Captain” Jack McDuff, Mason Jennings, Estaire Godinez, Willie Murphy, Simone Giulianni, Lazybatusu, Lister Rossel, Maia Lekow, Amber Monique, Slug, Desdamona, Prez P, Clyde Stubblefield, and Jonathan Tolliver. His performances have taken him everywhere from the Montreal Jazz Festival to First Avenue in Minneapolis.
