Crates is a vinyl listening party. Every Thursday at 10 p.m., we’ll unwrap a new release or experience an old favorite, played loud over Berlin’s d&b PA.
This week’s selection is the ambitious KARPEH by multi-instrumentalist/songwriter Joshua Karpeh, also known as Cautious Clay. This groovy fusion album is constructed around three thematic acts: “The Past Explained,” “The Honeymoon of Exploration,” and “A Bitter & Sweet Solitude,”through which Karpeh explores his family lineage, personal growth, and intimacy. Released on Blue Note in 2023, KARPEH features appearances by present-day jazz greats Arooj Aftab, Julian Lage, and Ambrose Akinmusire.
For fans of Blood Orange, Kamasi Washington, and Thundercat.
