White Dune showcases his upcoming record “memory II: drift" with live interpretations of ambient/drone pieces from the album. Opening the show is electronic wizard Thomas Wincek of Madison, WI (All Tiny Creatures, Volcano Choir, Field Report, CoCoBees); closing the show is vocal-looping minimal pop mastermind The Nunnery of Eau Claire, WI.

White Dune is the electronic project of Minneapolis drummer Dave Power (Solid Gold, bathtub cig, PRINTS, 58 Belvedere, Nelson Devereaux). Inspired by electronic, IDM/downtempo, and ambient artists like Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Tim Hecker, and Stars of the Lid, White Dune uses drum machines, synthesizers, and samplers to create otherworldly (and worldly) textures of melancholy dreamscapes. White Dune takes the listener from Miyazaki-like wanderings through deep, hypnotic forests to humming over barren deserts in one of Ridley Scott's futuristic machines. His latest album, a 122-minute trip through cinematic ambient drone soundscapes entitled "memory II: drift", is out on Oct. 17.

Thomas Wincek is an instrumentalist by choice and a computer operator out of necessity. His primary interest lies in the intersection of organic and electronic means of making sound. He has studied sound, sound composition and improvisation with Nicolas Collins, John Corbett and Rob Drinkwater. As the main force behind the experimental electronic dance act Emotional Joystick, he has worked at integrating the tenets of improvisation and sonic exploration into the rubric of contemporary dance music. As a result, he has released music on a variety of independent labels, has toured many portions of the United States and Europe, and has played alongside such acts as Tortoise, Venetian Snares, No Means No, Dillinger Escape Plan, Otto von Shirach, Doormouse, and Eight Frozen Modules.

The Nunnery begins with one voice layered upon itself and becoming a lush soundscape. Sarah Elstran is an independent musician who unites bright-eyed pop composition and the hands-on atmospheric live layering of voice. Her vocal loops give us the kind of detail and multi-octave range that we might come to expect from a marquee pop star, while her production decisions continually keep us guessing what rabbit holes her tracks might fall into next.
