Early Evening Jazz: Scottie Miller / Dan Carpel

Singer/composer/pianist Scottie Miller and bassist Dan Carpel will perform two sets of jazz, blues, and spoken word over the dinner hour. Their set will featuring material from Miller’s recent poetry collection and album “Carnival Cocoon.” Miller and Carpel are currently in the studio working on Miller’s 13th album.

Scottie Miller, named “Artist of the Year” by Bluebird Reviews in 2023 for his book and album Carnival Cocoon, contributed to Ruthie Foster’s Grammy award–nominated album Healing Time. He, Foster, and Hadden Sayers won the 2024 Blues Music Award for Song of the Year with “What Kind of Fool.”

Dan Carpel attended Berklee College of Music, where he was in the school’s Monterey Quartet. He was a member of Jason Palmer’s band throughout his time in town, and was a mainstay in their residency at Wally’s Jazz Cafe. His time out east also notably included playing in groups led by Godwin Louis, Noah Preminger, and Melissa Aldana. Since relocating to the Twin Cities, Dan has regularly worked with Javi Santiago, Zacc Harris, and Omar Abdulkarim. He frequently performed with singer/guitarist Mary Cutrufello as well as Sonny Knight and the Lakers, and he recently became a part of Dylan Hicks’s Small Screens.
