Bassist Max Johnk makes his Berlin debut with pianist Jordan Christianson and drummer Chresten Hyde. The new trio will perform two sets of adventurous contemporary jazz, featuring hard-bop deep cuts, modern pop covers, and tunes from the Great American Songbook.

Max Johnk is a journeyman bassist who lives and works in Minneapolis, MN. A recent transplant to the Twin Cities, Johnk has worked in the jazz, indie, Americana, and underground metal scenes across the Midwest for over a decade. He has been lucky to perform with Dakota Andersen, Wayne Anthony, Abinnet Berhanu, Davina and the Vagabonds, Paul Hecht, Cassandra Johnson, Toussaint Morrison, Conor Lee, Ethan Ostrow, The Weeping Covenant, and many others.
Jordan Christianson grew up studying classical piano in Fargo, ND. After discovering jazz and performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival with his high-school band, he decided to pursue piano seriously. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead and a master’s degree from the University of Miami, both in jazz performance. He began teaching piano in 2008, and his many students have ranged from beginners to adults. He has performed with jazz artists such as Stefon Harris, Tierney Sutton, Kate Reid, the New York Voices, Peter Erskine, and Allen Vizzutti.
Chresten Hyde is a drummer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter based in Minneapolis. He developed his musical voice while living in Chicago and Los Angeles. He has worked with Caroline Davis, Chicago Afrobeat Project, Ian Duerr, and Kevin Washington & RA Spirit.
