7:30pm Show
On tour showcasing their new album Esoteric Lounge Music Now (Disciples), Ruth Mascelli (NY) and Mary Hanson Scott bring their unique multidimensional noir to life. Mascelli’s paranoid torch songs, fit for the Twin Peaks Roadhouse, venture into more liminal and spaced-out territory with the addition of Hanson Scott’s cloudlike ambient saxophone and electronics. Nona Invie will open the show with their bright, temporal vocals and synth-centered songwriting.
⊹
Ruth Mascelli pairs slinking, synth-fuelled transcendence with crooning, existential balladry. Softening the edges of the industrial textures he provides as one quarter of the notorious synth punk band Special Interest, Mascelli’s solo performances present a carefully constructed sequence of torch songs and droning mood pieces infused throughout with a cosmic romanticism. Formerly based in New Orleans, he now lives and works in Kingston, NY.
Mary Hanson Scott is a Minneapolis-based musician known for building layers of ethereal saxophone into something almost synth-like. She has performed at Drone Not Drones in Minneapolis; International Noise Conference in Miami; Big Ears Festival in Knoxville (with Green Ribbon); and basements, plant stores, galleries, and churches across the country. Hanson Scott earned a Deep Listening Certificate from the Pauline Oliveros Deep Listening Institute in 2024.
⊹
Nona Invie is a singer/composer based in Minneapolis who has worked with a range of musical projects, including folk/Americana band Dark Dark Dark, electronic trio RONiiA, and the choral ensemble Anonymous Choir. Their solo work layers acoustic piano with synth instruments, creating an ethereal landscape to get lost in.
