Regional Jazz Trio (Anthony Cox / JT Bates / Mike Lewis)

$20 (General Admission) 7:30pm Show

Regional Jazz Trio will play two sets at Berlin.

Band Members:
JT Bates - Drums
Anthony Cox - Bass
Mike Lewis - Saxophone

“That this trio has been playing off and on for years under the unassuming moniker the Regional Jazz Trio is completely misleading, for this group’s music is anything but reserved. While they are capable of creating music that is poignant and picturesque, especially Cox and Lewis’ duo The Reverse of Sam and Dave, more likely than not, it will be [a show] of wonderfully organized chaos, with Lewis’ reeds blowing torrents of sound over Cox and Bates’ textural offerings.”

Jazz Police

Growing up in a musical family gave JT Bates an early start into sound and rhythmic exploration. He set on the path to becoming a working musician while playing in his father’s big band as a teen. Over the years, he remained steeped in the improvised music scene, both as a performer and presenter. In 2015, he produced and released his first solo album, “Open Relationships” (Totally Gross National Product), and in 2021, he released an album called “Not Other Stuff.” As a session drummer, JT has appeared on Grammy record of the year “Folklore” (Taylor Swift) and Swift’s follow-up album, “Evermore.” He has also performed on the Grammy-nominated album “s/t”(Bonny Light Horseman) and critically acclaimed records by Bon Iver, Big Red Machine, Cassandra Jenkins, The National, Maya Hawke, and Ed Sheeran.

Anthony Cox is an internationally renowned arranger, composer, performer, recording artist, and educator. His career has spanned over 30 years of music education, composition, and performance, encompassing an extensive list of collaborations, performances, and recordings with notable artists in the field of jazz. The list includes Sam Rivers, Joe Lovano, Geri Allen, Kenny Wheeler, Ed Blackwell, Billy Higgins, John Scofield, The NDR Big Band, Dino Saluzzi, and Henry Threadgill.

Mike Lewis is regarded throughout the Twin Cities and well beyond as one of the most creative sax players in modern music, lending his blowing and bowing skills to a number of highly regarded ensembles, including Happy Apple, Fat Kid Wednesdays, and Regional Jazz Trio.
