Early Evening Jazz: Kenny Reichert Trio

NO COVER 4:30pm Show

Guitarist Kenny Reichert, pianist Bryan Nichols, and bassist Graydon Peterson will play two sets of dinner jazz.

Recognized by DownBeat magazine as "a distinctive player and composer," Kenny Reichert has established himself as a compelling guitarist with an expressive, refined approach to his instrument. Blending lyricism with harmonic sophistication, he crafts music that is both adventurous and accessible. His artistry has been praised by All About Jazz as "masterly without being showy," and Textura has lauded his compositions for making an "immediate impression" and "warranting repeat engagement." Based between Chicago and Minneapolis, Reichert is an in-demand performer who has collaborated with artists such as Russ Johnson, Geof Bradfield, Lenard Simpson, Clark Sommers, Ethan Philion, John Christensen, Devin Drobka, Ana Everling, and Alyssa Allgood. He has performed at venues and festivals across the United States and Europe, bringing his music to audiences in intimate and large-scale settings. As a recording artist, Reichert has released three albums. His latest, Switch (2024, Calligram Records), showcases diverse moods and textures over its nine tracks, while his previous albums, Deep Breath (2023, Shifting Paradigm Records) and Interpretations (2015), cemented his reputation as a forward-thinking guitarist and composer.

Bryan Nichols is a pianist, composer, and educator based in Minneapolis. Often found playing jazz and improvised music, but at home in a variety of musical worlds, he leads and composes for his own trio, quintet, and nonet, in addition to performing, recording, and touring with a variety of forward-thinking artists. The Star Tribune has called him “a versatile, daring and inventive keyboardist...one of the Twin Cities' most respected jazz players.” He is a recipient of a prestigious McKnight Fellowship for Performing Artists and a residency at the Kennedy Center for Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead program. Bryan has released two albums as a leader to critical and audience acclaim, an original solo piano work, Looking North, and a suite of originals for his quintet, Bright Places.

Graydon Peterson is a bassist and composer living in Minneapolis. He regularly performs with a variety of vocalists and small ensembles, including Arne Fogel, Wayne Anthony, Firebell, Snowblind, Charanga Tropical, Twin Cities Latin Jazz Orchestra, Tropical Zone Orchestra, D’Lakes, Babatunde Leah’s “Rhythm’s Mama,” and ThoughtCast. Graydon has accompanied world-renowned jazz drummer Francisco Mela for a series of concerts in Havana, Cuba. Other widely known artists Graydon has performed with include Delfeayo Marsalis, Gary Bartz, Randy Brecker, Ben Wendel, Jorge Pacheco, and Mayito Rivera. Graydon is also the founder of a successful jam session held every week at Whitey’s Old Town Saloon in northeast Minneapolis. A consummate accompanist, writer, and arranger, he has become one of the backbones of the jazz scene in the Twin Cities.
