Guitarist Chris Graham, bassist Dan Carpel, and drummer Miguel Hurtado will perform a mix of classic and lesser-known jazz standards. A trio of master improvisers who can also lay down some serious groove, they would love for you to join in with them for some exploration and good vibes.
Dan Carpel attended Berklee College of Music, where he was in the school’s Monterey Quartet. He was a member of Jason Palmer’s band throughout his time in town, and was a mainstay in their residency at Wally’s Jazz Cafe. His time out east also notably included playing in Godwin Louis’ groups. Since relocating to the Twin Cities, Dan has regularly worked with Javi Santiago, Zacc Harris, and Omar Abdulkarim. He frequently performed with singer/guitarist Mary Cutrufello as well as Sonny Knight and the Lakers, and he recently became a part of Dylan Hicks’s Small Screens.
Guitarist Chris Graham masterfully interweaves tradition and future. While rooted in the rich legacy of jazz and blues music, his playing continues to knock on the door of new possibilities. As a collaborator, Chris has shared the stage with a diverse array of Twin Cities artists, including Lucy Michelle, Javier Santiago, Ted Olsen, Aaron Hedenstrom, Chris Bates, and Adam Harder Nussbaum. These opportunities have not only expanded Chris’ musical horizons but also showcased his adaptability and versatility as an instrumentalist.
Miguel Hurtado is a professional drummer and educator based in the Midwest. Born and raised in Minneapolis, MN, he started drumming at age 10 while attending Ramsey International Fine Arts Center. By age 14, he was playing gigs with youth jazz groups and local professional musicians. Miguel attended the Manhattan School of Music, where he received a BFA in jazz performance. Since returning to the Twin Cities, he has established himself as an important member of the rich hip-hop, jazz, and experimental music scenes. His musical versatility has allowed him to collaborate with artists across many genres of music, including West African, Latin, funk, pop, and gospel, as well as collaborations in the visual arts. Miguel can be seen playing at venues across the Midwest with such artists as Lady Midnight, the Ted Olsen Quartet, Your Smith, and the Minneapolis String Project.
