Drummer and composer Abinnet Berhanu’s Ahndenet አንድነት pays respect to Ethiopian folk, pop, and instrumental music, exploring the unique musical cultures that span northern and southern Ethiopia. Ahndenet will be celebrating the upcoming release of their debut album, “For The Culture & The Music” “ለባህል እና ለሙዚቃ.”
Abinnet Berhanu’s Ahndenet, which translates to “unity,” is based on the concept of the “bahil bet” or “culture house,” which combines song, dance, and theater to tell the stories of the different ethnic groups that make up Ethiopia. Ahndenet highlights the different cultures and generations that make up what we know as modern Ethiopian music and aims to build on that legacy in the diaspora. This performance features Ethiopian vocalist Genet Abate, who regularly performs at Ethiopian clubs and festivals across the United States.
